Muriel Stirling 1914-2006                                      (benefactor of Motueka High School)

The Kina Beach scholarships were bequeathed to Motueka High School  in 2006 by Muriel Stirling.

Muriel was a long-serving Plunket Nurse in the Motueka district.

As a result of her generosity, $1,000,000 was invested to assist students from Motueka High School with their tertiary studies.  The grants are only available to Year 13 students who have attended Motueka High School for at least three years.  Tertiary studies include university and polytech courses.

Muriel's vision was that "the children of her babies would benefit from her legacy".

For those who knew her, Muriel was a very special person.  She was tiny in stature, yet you would always notice her in a crowd.

Muriel was a woman of integrity, a practicing Christian with a wicked sense of humour.  She lived simply with a cottage at Kina and a small house in Mornington, Dunedin.  She had a passion for travel and fast, classy cars.

Muriel was loved by all who met her - the young, the old, the poor and the privileged.
